Fugit inreparabile tempus
We’re all familiar with the Latin phrase tempus fugit. It originally appeared in The Georgics, a poem by Latin poet Virgil, as fugit inreparabile tempus: “it escapes, irretrievable time”.
As January 2020 draws to its inevitable close, it’s a good time to reflect on those goals we set for ourselves only a month ago.
I committed to kick my sugar habit this year. With the exception of one accidental hot chocolate, and more dark chocolate than I should admit, it’s going pretty well so far. My mother-in-law even commented last week on my weight loss.
I’ve also stuck to a parkrun streak, getting muddy and sweaty at five 5km events in January. My times are still far too slow, but the 50 second improvement I achieved last Saturday was a promising sign of things to come.
Here at Bamford Media, we’ve experienced an incredibly busy start to the year. Our expanded team and improved systems are starting to make a positive difference to turnaround times, which are still (much like my parkrun times) slower than I want, but gradually showing signs of improvement.
We welcomed Joe Denyer to the team this month, our seventh team member. Joe is a professional photograher, capturing incredible images and moments for our clients.
On Monday this week, we sent Joe to Ireland with Nick and Bodders from Informed Choice, to capture photographs for the next edition of their client magazine. What should have been a simple trip from Gatwick to Knock turned into a bigger adventure when their plane was diverted to Dublin due to heavy snow blocking the runway at Ireland West Airport.
Earlier in the month, I hosted our most popular webinar to date. We run these webinars once a month as a way to share our current thinking around digital marketing for Financial Planners. With more than 40 of you tuning in for our Kickstart Your Marketing in 2020 webinar, it’s clear than marketing and business development goals are high on the priority list for this year.
We’ve launched two new client websites this month, and also an automated email marketing campaign as a lead magnet for a client. You can keep up with our latest client launches in the portfolio section of our website. Our white board shows six new client websites in various stages of development, with at least three of these scheduled for launch in February.
Earlier this week we were accepted to the Flywheel Agency Partner programme. Flywheel is our WordPress hosting provider of choice, so becoming an agency partner is an important milestone for us, offering access to better support and development options.
Coming up next month (next week, in fact!) is our second webinar of the year, this time all about how to supercharge your financial planner website.
Also next week is the Professional Adviser Awards, where Bamford Media is a finalist for Best Adviser Support Service and our client Noel Watson from Pyrford Financial Planning is a finalist for Best Adviser Website. Two of our clients are finalists for Adviser Personality of the Year! It should be a fun night.
And then looking ahead into 2020, we’re working hard to sell tickets to the Financial Planner Marketing Summit 2020, which takes place in Guildford on Friday 19th June.
It’s the second annual edition of the Summit, and we’re going much bigger this year, with a big name keynote speaker booked and ambitions to fill more of the 190 seats in The Electric Theatre. Feedback from delegates to the Summit last June was overwhelmingly positive and we’re incredibly keen to share the experience with even more Financial Planners in 2020.
Fugit inreparabile tempus is relevant to the Summit, as our keynote speaker is James Wallman, author of Time and How to Spend It. I’m convinced that the message James shares with Summit delegates in June will form a central part of the Financial Planning proposition in the second half of 2020 and beyond.
Early bird tickets, which save you £40 off the price of a standard ticket, are on sale until midnight tonight.
If time has flown a little too quickly for you this month, then buying a Summit ticket today is a fantastic antidote to a fear of your 2020 goals and resolutions slipping away. By attending this event, we will hold you to account and help turn your marketing goals into a reality.
