Celebrating the start of the Terrific Twos
As a parent, I’m all too familiar with the phenomenon that is the ‘terrible twos’.
She’ll no doubt hate me for writing this, but my eldest daughter Megan holds the record for throwing some incredible tantrums as a two-year-old. It was no fun at the time, but she’s grown into a wonderful young lady now, so all is forgiven.
Today, Bamford Media celebrates its second birthday. I hope this won’t give rise to a year of the terrible twos, but instead what I plan to be the terrific twos.
While 30th May 2017 was our official inception date (for Companies House), we didn’t get going until later that year, with our podcasting project at the Festival of Financial Planning.
And then it wasn’t until the following Easter that we moved into our offices, marking the official start of our journey.
During that time, we’ve come a long way as a business, and also feel like we’re just getting started.
We’ve built websites, produced podcasts, managed social media accounts, written several hundred blog posts, published magazines, coordinated live events, and even found the time to create a few of our in-house projects.
We’ve made several mistakes during this journey – including saying ‘yes’ to everything. But every error has been a learning experience, and this two-year-old is learning all of the time.
In the past two years, we’ve had the pleasure of working with some incredible clients, on a range of incredible projects. I want to take this opportunity to say thank you to each of them.
The projects we are just getting started on right now are equally as exciting. I occasionally need to pinch myself when I realise the size and reputation of some of the clients we have engaged recently.
There’s some big stuff coming up for Bamford Media.
Something we’ve wanted to do since that two-day stint sat in a perspex box in the Birmingham NEC is to build our very own mobile podcasting studio, to take to various events and produce audio content in the field. So that’s what we’re creating right now, with Voxabox launching in the Autumn.
Next week sees another growing up moment for Bamford Media, with the appointment of Kathryn Watts as Marketing Manager. Kathryn has a lot of experience in PR and Marketing Communications, including working for Lexus and British Airways.
Kathryn joining the team will enable us to get better at the production of projects, which is currently too slow for my liking, due to the limited resources in the organisation.
Shortly after Kathryn joins the Bamford Media team, we’ve got our first live event coming up. The Financial Planner Marketing Summit in Guildford on Friday 21st June is shaping up to be a wonderful and value-packed day, where we have an opportunity to change the narrative around financial planner marketing.
I do not doubt that our terrific twos will be a lively mix of success and learning points. We won’t get it right every time. When things don’t go quite to plan, we’ll do our best not to chuck our toys out of the pram about it, learn from the experience, and move on with that experience under our belts.
What I can promise from our terrific twos is a continued ambition to become the marketing agency of choice for leading Financial Planners in the UK. We will continue to apply our decades of experience, and constant desire for innovation, to get tangible results for our clients.
Thank you to everyone who has supported Bamford Media this far on our journey. Here’s to another exciting year ahead.
